Wood Racing Swings Back into Action at Golden Isles UDLMCS Event
|
|
New
Smyrna Beach, Florida – Teen
dirt late model pilot Dillon Wood of New Smyrna Beach, Florida
will return to racing action this weekend at Golden Isles
Speedway in Waynesville, GA. Wood will join fellow Floridian
OSAS points chasers Ivedent Lloyd and Jason Fitzgerald for the
$3000 to win United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series event set
for Saturday night, June 28th .
Wood
will return to the track after taking some time off. The rested
and rejuvenated youngster is ready to buckle in and go racing
after the break for some family vacation time. "We took a
trip up to the mountains for a little vacation. I had planned on
being back for the Lucas Oil events over in the Carolinas but we
ended up staying a few days longer than expected. But we are
ready to get back at it this week." Wood said.
The
United Dirt Late Model Challenge mandates either an all cast
iron or GM Crate engine for their events. Wood picked up a fresh
Koury power plant from friend and fellow racer Shane Williams in
order to participate in this weekend's event. Wood will continue
to utilize his Rocket Chassis shod with Hoosier Racing Tires.
Wood will also carry the same design and colors as the super
late model that he regularly campaigns on the O'Reilly Southern
All Stars Racing Series Tour.
"This
is a chance for us to race locally and build up a little money
to travel on when the Southern All Stars hit the road again in
mid-July. And Golden Isles is really one of my favorite race
tracks to race on. Our car has been pretty good there the few
times we have been there this year. It will be a little bit
different set-up because of the heavier front weight but my dad
and Alex will have us dialed in no time I am sure." Wood
commented.
Dillon
and the Dillon
Wood Racing Team would like to thank their sponsors for the
continued support. Bearden Oil Company, Screven Motor Speedway

1, 2008 - Dillon Wood Racing Headed for the 14th
Annual $100,000 Dream at Eldora Speedway
|
|
New
Smyrna Beach, Florida – Teen
sensation Dillon Wood of New Smyrna Beach, Florida and his
number 26 racing team will make the trek north to the hallowed
half mile high banks of Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio for
the 14th Annual $100,000 to win Dream this week. Wood
and team will leave out on Tuesday for the some fifteen hour
trip up to the "House That Earl Built". The storied
half mile, now owned by NASCAR's Tony Stewart, annually draws
well over one hundred cars to each of its premier dirt late
model events.
Wood
figures he has a good shot at making the event and being
competitive. "We definitely have equipment that is as good
as anyone else's. I have never been to Eldora but I seem to do
well on the bigger high-speed tracks. It will definitely be a
challenge because I know that the best in the business will be
there. But I also know that we can run with those guys. We have
already shown that this year. We just need to get a good draw
and be prepared and lay down a good lap on Friday night. If we
can do that I fell like we can race our way in to the
show." Wood commented.
In
an effort to get as prepared as possible Wood has taken the
last few weekends off to ready his new Rocket Chassis. "We
took out the new car and we have tested it a few times and made
it pretty good. Then we took it over to Screven Motor Speedway
and made some fine adjustments and ended up winning that night.
So since then we have been here at the shop working on it every
day getting ready to go to Eldora. I know we are ready to go. I
am excited about going and giving it my best shot." said
the seventeen year old high school junior.
Wood
will pilot a Rocket Chassis machine that is powered by a
Clements Racing Engine. Dillon and the Dillon Wood Racing Team
would like to thank their sponsors for the continued support.

Wood Takes Career First Super Late Model Win at Screven Motor
Speedway
|
|
Sylvania
, Georgia
– Seventeen year old
Florida dirt late model racer Dillon Wood of New Smyrna Beach,
Florida picked up his first career super late model win in
Saturday night at the Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania,
Georgia. Wood hit the hat trick on the night by setting quick
time, winning the dash and winning the thirty lap feature on the
red clay 1/3 mile Georgia oval.
Dillon's
lap of 14.72 seconds was nearly two full tenths faster than that
of Chesley Dixon, Wood's closest rival of the evening. Screven's
format calls for the fastest qualifier to draw a pill for an
invert for a dash that determines starting positions. Dillon
drew a number three for the invert which put him on the inside
second row for the Dash for Cash. The front row was made up of
Dixon and John Kellum.

Wood Takes a Top Ten at Toccoa O'Reilly Southern All Stars Event
|
|
New
Smyrna Beach , Florida
– Dillon Wood and his DWR
Team returned to the O'Reilly Southern All Star Racing Series
title chase action in the state of Georgia this past weekend.
Dillon picked up where he had left off the previous weekend by
turning in a stellar qualifying effort and scoring his first
OSAS top ten of the season. Dillon did a yeoman's job the
previous weekend at the three Georgia Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt
Series, qualifying for all three events against some of the
nation's best dirt racers.
Dillon
started the evening out at Toccoa Speedway by tripping the clock
at 12.751 seconds which was good enough to put him fourth fast
overall of the twenty-six drivers who took time. Only Brent
Dixon, eventual winner Benji Cole and Stacy Holmes bested
Dillon's lap. By virtue of his qualifying effort and the OSAS
format which locks the top ten qualifiers in to the feature,
Dillon and his team were able to spend their time concentrating
on the tire choice and adjustments for the feature.
