New
Smyrna Beach, FL - Dillon
Wood and his Dillon Wood Race Team attacked the high
banks of Talladega Short Track last weekend in the 17th
Annual Ice Bowl. After two successful days of
practice, Wood timed in thirty-third fast out of the
seventy-six cars on hand. Wood finished fifth in his
heat which relegated him to one of the B-Mains. Wood
pushed his Rocket Chassis to the limit in the twelve
lap event and came up just one position short of
transferring to the feature. “We changed so much on
the car and we made the car better every time. So we
learned a lot but we could have learned more another
fifty laps” said Wood.
Wood
also had Ohlins Shock Specialist Jason Young on hand
for the weekend as a part of his crew. “Having Jason
in the pits was good for us. We changed shock settings
and springs quite a bit and having Jason’s expertise
and support was a huge help. It allowed us to really
learn a lot of information about our shock
program and how our car responds to the changes we
made. I wish we could have him with us every week.”
said Wood.
Dillon
and his father Todd continue their preseason
preparations for their run at the 2008 O’Reilly
Southern All Stars Championship and Rookie of the Year
titles. The team took delivery of a brand new Rocket
Chassis Race Car in the days leading up to the Ice
Bowl and is now working feverishly to complete the car
for their next event at Golden Isles Speedway. “The
car was about 75% complete when we picked it up so we
just need to finish up the plumbing and put our new
Clements Race Engine in and it will be ready.” said
the elder Wood.
Dillon
and team hope to have both of their Rocket Chassis
ready for the O’Reilly Southern All Stars portion of
Super Bowl of Racing IV at the Golden Isles Speedway
on January 30th, 31st and
February 1st. DWR would like to thank their
2008 sponsors for their support. “We want to arrive
at GIS set and ready to go after the OSAS titles. We
think we have a good shot. We saw a lot of the race
tracks last year and that should really be a big plus
for us this year when we go back to those same
places.” Said Wood.
